Lioness in Water
By Michael Lorentz

I returned mid morning to watch this lioness feeding on a giraffe killed two days before on the edge of a floodplain. As the day warmed up and her belly got full, the lioness retreated to the shade of some nearby trees. A flock of vultures were skulking on the surrounding trees and every time the lioness lay down, the vultures would swoop down to feed. Watching her kill being devoured in a pile of squabbling feathers was just too much for the lioness - she would come charging back across the floodplain, the birds exploding into the air. The look in her eyes in this shot clearly tells of her irritation and frustration.
